It is a natural protected territory combining alpine landscapes, from the high mountains, with forests, grazing fields and hamlets with its traditional architecture. Pernui, an add-on hamlet to the township of Sort, is the portal to access Alt Pirineu Natural Park. With an extension of 69.850 Ha it spreads around fifteen municipalities of El Pallars Sobirà and l'Alt Urgell, and so becomes the biggest natural park in Catalonia.

Its grounds are rich and varied in terms of natural patrimony. It gathers together the Pica d'Estats, the highest peak in Catalonia (3.143 m), the lake of Certascan, the widest and deepest lake in the Pyrenees, as well as a diverse and plentiful fauna and flora, highlighted by the Pyrenean brown bear, the capercaillie and the Pallaresan rock lizard , in addition to a great diversity of species in the native protected flora. Worth mentioning, too, are the woods in Baiasca or Virós, the plains of Nequa, Boet and Boavi, and the swamps of La Torrassa.

Nature Interpretation Itinerary

When we find ourselves among nature, the usual thing is climbing to the top to contemplate the landscape. The views are magnificent, we can even be moved to tears by the sight, but in fact, we are only seeing the main features.

In these itineraries, we teach the processes, movements and interpretations of the meaning of each element that we come across along the trip. It is the small print of nature.

The itinerary starts in the morning, at half past nine, and we get to the bordes (stone sheds) where we have lunch, eating and drinking the things we carry in our backpack

Then, we take the return trip following the same way back till we get to the starting point. It means less than 10 km., easy and accessible for all ages and conditions.

The informational contents are high and the intention is to show in depth what goes on in nature from the point of view of the smallest but most important beings: butterflies and insects.
